Enviroquip SS Clarifiers
The SS Series Suction Clarifiers (SS3 and SS3.5)

Innovative pier-supported drive mechanism

General Product Overview

The hydraulic differential approach is the key to the success of Enviroquip's SS Series clarifiers. This process assures that activated sludge is dense, fresh and spends minimum time outside of the aeration process.

Sludge is drawn from the floor of the basin to a suspended trough for removal by an artificially create hydraulic differential. Since the trough is open, it allows visual inspection of the sludge from all pickup locations. The tubes can be cleaned with a straight rod from above without exposing the operator to danger or removing the unit from service. A low head loss transfer of return activated sludge is provided.

The sludge suction tubes are large, minimum four inches in diameter. Since the tubes are large and straight, the potential for clogging is minimized.

Squeegees rake sludge to each riser tube location. Their raking pattern is designed to cover any given part of the floor twice per revolution.

All models are fitted with spray scum traps which improve the full surface skimming ability of the units. A Scum trough situated within the influent well remove a major portion of the scum before it enters the clarifier. Additional ports at intervals across the clarifier SludgeViewR™ remove the remainder of the scum. All units are built with access bridges, which make it easy to maintain the drive assembly and allow easier cleaning of the return trough, and pickup tubes.

We manufacture several models of SS Series clarifiers. The basic differences between the models are the methods in which the sludge and scum is separated and the scum discharged.

CLARIFER PIER-SUPPORTED DRIVE MECHANISM

Enviroquip® is proud to introduce an innovative pier-supported drive mechanism with a key feature that makes our clarifier and thickener mechanisms superior to the competition.

One of the most common claims made by clarifier manufacturers is that the unit is supplied with removable strip liners that can be replaced without removing the access bridge. What these manufacturers fail to mention is that the access bridge is not the problem -- the drive cage is. The drive cage, to which the collector arms are attached, must be unbolted from the rotating portion of the drive mechanism to gain access to the strip liners and bearing balls. The drive cage and flight arms must be supported during the process, which requires dewatering the clarifier to place supports under the mechanism to hold it in place while repairs are being made.

With the clarifier out of service, a waste treatment plant runs the risk of an increase in suspended solids being discharged to the effluent due to excessive hydraulic loads being applied to the remaining clarifiers. If a plant has only one clarifier, the problem is even more severe.

We have developed a revolutionary, new, heavy-duty, center pier-supported internal spur gear drive¹ that eliminates this problem. Enviroquip's unique gear Clarifier Drive is designed so that all critical parts of the drive mechanism, such as the bearing raceways, balls and gear set, can be disassembled and removed for repair or replacement without disconnecting the drive cage and rake arm assembly from the rotating portion of the drive mechanism. Significantly, it is no longer necessary for the clarifier or thickener basin to be dewatered in order to shore up the drive cage and collector arms while repairs are performed. Flow can continue through the clarifier while the disassembly and reassembly procedure takes place. Instead of taking days, repairs take only four to six hours. A clarifier can handle the solids load over this time span without detrimental effects to the process even though the rake arms are not rotating.

Even more significant, all of the disassembly and repairs can be done on the bridge platform surrounding the drive mechanism (Jack Bolt Drive) with only a one-ton portable hoist, such as an engine hoist. This eliminates the expense of a large mobile crane and operator and the damage often caused to the landscaping.
